About the Chalet
Chalet la Sache is a stunning catered chalet in the beautiful Chamonix valley. The chalet is south facing just a few minutes from the historic town of Chamonix. The chalet has all the modern amenities you would expect from a luxury chalet with plenty of home comforts to make your stay just that bit more special. We offer a fully catered service both summer and winter with fantastic meals and superb wines. As part of the the service we will organise all the ski passes, lessons and guides. We will also share our love of the valley with you, allowing you to benefit from our local knowledge gained living here all year round. The chalet is open summer and winter.
A Typical Day The chalet day starts with a hearty breakfast of breakfast, of cereals, French bread, croissants, yoghurts, fruit and a hot option to set you up for a day on the slopes. Once you have had your fill, we will then drive you to the slopes. We have the 2 big Antjam Land Rover defenders to drive you around resort in. We always give a little wave to a stranded minibus on the way up to Le Tour. So far in seven years we have never failed to get to the slopes! Generally we will need to use both cars, so we can either do two trips at the same time, or stagger the times to give you a few more minutes to get ready. We will then agree a meeting time to collect you, we can usually do two trips again, so an earlier collection is usually possible. Also if we are in the chalet we can usually pop into town to collect someone from one of the bus stops if you need an early finish. Basically we try to ensure you do not walk too far in your ski boots.
A couple of days a week we will be free to show you about the slopes, we are not high mountain guides but do know our way around very well. We can show you the best pistes for your level, help you find good coffee stops and also for the slightly braver some of the easier off piste. We cannot and would not take you onto the glaciers to ski, except the marked areas, as this is strictly for the high mountain guides. Once back at the chalet there will be tea and homemade cakes ready for you, the hot tub will be hot, and the honesty bar open. If you want to have a few beers in town it is a short walk along the flat Rue des Pecles into town, but we find most guests enjoy their beer in the hot tub!
Dinner is usually served around 8pm, often after an aperitif and a few nibbles. We cook a 3 or 4 course dinner on 6 nights, choosing our menus from week to week depending on what is in season and what we think you our guests may enjoy. We try to offer a range of meals from traditional French favourites to some Italian classics to some Asian food as well. We can happily cater for vegetarians and those with allergies as well. Dinner is a chance to catch up on all the ski gossip of the day so its important there is plenty of wine to help embellish the stories. Our chalet wines flow freely during dinner, and we try to have a few different wines for you to try during the week. You will find your beds super comfortable. We really splurged when we bought them. Also the big soft feather duvets ensure you have a good nights sleep before doing it all again the next day! Sample menu
When we came to Chamonix the one area of running the Chalet we were really excited about was creating the meals. We both have a passion for cooking and generally do the cooking together. We do not stick to a set menu for the season but prefer to keep our eyes out for the freshest local ingredients each week. We also welcome vegetarians and always try to do something interesting, healthy and filling.
Our speciality is wholesome home cooked food with the finest ingredients, we do not try to be over fussy and fancy. We believe you booked our chalet to have fabulous home cooked dishes not restaurant food. Dinner we believe should be an informal way for you to relax, catch up on the ski stories of the day, and eat some great food.
We also have a large selection of wines to offer you, local Savoie whites, deep reds from the Aosta valley and a range of wines from across France. Rest assured dinner at La Sache will be like no other catered chalet you have been to. We have also listed some of our favorite meals below to give you a flavour of what we offer.
