About the apartment
The apartment is part of a small development built in 2002. Unusually for this type of property there is a spacious open-plan living/dining/kitchen area, and a large terrace with connecting balcony. Apartment floor area is around 75 square metres, the terrace is around 50.
The terrace is partly shaded during summer days, and is safe for small children to play, while parents can watch them through the French windows in the main bedroom.
The apartment has been independently audited for child safety, and has a range of baby and toddler equipment (high chair, cots, steriliser, changing mat, etc).
The nearest ski lift is 150m away, and you can ski to within 100m of the door.
Local shops, bars and restaurants are within 200m, and there is a supermarket 10 minute walk away (not downhill!). Chamonix town is 5km, 10 minutes by car or 20-30 by bus. Bus services along the valley stop outside the cable car, 150m away. Access to all main ski areas in the Chamonix Valley is easy by bus or car.
The apartment is comprehensively equipped, and there is an allocated parking space in the secure underground garage, with additional parking available on the driveway.
Les Houches is at the entry to the Chamonix Valley, with its own ski area. A quiet village five km from Chamonix town, with easy access to all local and area facilities.
The Chamonix Valley is world-famous for its variety and range of skiing, but it is emphatically NOT a linked, purpose built, ski system. Les Houches is excellent for beginners and intermediates and is entirely tree lined, which helps in bad weather. The local bus (150m from the apartment) is free and goes to all other areas in the Valley. Keen skiers will need no introduction to Argentiere, one of the world's premier off-piste destinations. Other areas in the Valley cater for all levels and tastes. Being easily accessed by road, Les Houches is an excellent base for exploring other ski resorts - there are a wide range within day trip range in France, Italy and Switzerland - particularly Megeve, Courmayeur and Flaine.
Other activities include climbing, rafting, canyoning, paragliding, walking, husky sledding, forest adventure parks, good shopping. There is even a beach at Lacs du Passy, 10 miles away. Chamonix golf course is approx. 6 miles away. There are even world-class art galleries (Martigy, 1 hour) and jazz festivals (Montreux, 90 minutes). Lakes Geneva and Annecy are easily accessible.
The Chamonix Valley is an enxcellent base for touring the western Alps and northern Italy - Geneva is one hour, Milan and Turin area about 2-1/2 hours. Even Venice is less than five hours!

The large, solidly-fenced terrace, raised one level from the building entrance, is fully decked and ideal for toddlers in the summer. It does not get too much direct sun, so small ones can play safely while adults use the apartment and separate balcony. The master bedroom has french doors opening onto the terrace, so tired parents can watch over the little ones from their bed! Child safety has been independently audited, and the apartment is equipped with relevant safety features for young children, and also has baby/toddler equipment such as high chairs, cot/playpen, steriliser, bed guard, etc.
The range of activities and facilities in the area, year round, is vast, ranging from the extremes of mountain sport to high culture in the art galleries of Martigny. The area is also a good base for touring, with easy access to Italy and Switzerland.
Location
The apartment is located in Les Houches.

“Thanks Keith and family, we’ve had a wonderful time. Kids love the terrace, even the grandparents were impressed, but did moan about the lack of a hot tub on the terrace—“ Andy, July 2003
(Owners note: sorry, still no hot tub, don’t think the terrace would take the weight!)
“Superb accommodation, wonderful location” Jeanie, June 2004
“We could enjoy our stay very much at this apartment” Abe family (Japan), July 2004

“WE HAD FUN!! What’s the difference between snowmen and snow women? SNOWBALLS!” The Hurst party (the kids, I think!) March 2006
“I had a great time skiing. I liked my instructor and he taught me how to ski blues. I liked sleeping in the same bedroom as my friends. I went to Chamonix and bought 2 kittens in a basket”. Megan (and family) March 2006 – if those were real kittens this is a rather unusual ski holiday souvenir!
“We have had the most incredible holiday in the most incredibly difficult to adequately describe location in the Alps” Rob (East London, South Africa), June 2006
“What a magnificent place! The setting is very beautiful, the apartment very livable and child-friendly” Peter (Florida) June 2006
“My dad ate too much and had wine he very much liked” The Atkinson (kids), Holland, July 2006
